Finally a pair of convertible pants that actually fit well off the rack – the tapered legs don't balloon out when zipped into shorts. The stretch in the fabric makes scrambling over rocks feel unrestricted, and the windproof layer kept the chill off during a ridge traverse.

The fabric feels surprisingly breathable even on steep climbs, and the zippers make it easy to cool off without stopping. I’ve worn them through a light drizzle and they dried off quickly.

I was skeptical about the zipper conversion at first, but the TEXASHIELD CORE fabric really does block wind perfectly during gusts on the trail while still feeling breathable. Zipped off the legs in seconds when I warmed up climbing, and the tapered fit kept everything from flapping around.
